RedEye VB is a Nintendo Virtual Boy emulator for Mac.
Getting Started
- Install RedEye VB from the Mac App Store.
- Acquire a
.vbROM you legally have rights to — your own backup, public-domain test ROMs, or homebrew from the Planet Virtual Boy community. - Open the App and choose File → Load ROM… (or drag a
.vbfile onto the window).
Controls
RedEye supports any MFi (Apple-licensed) game controller, plus a configurable on-screen and keyboard control scheme. To configure: Options → Configure Controller.

Hotkeys
- F1 — cycle stereoscopic display mode
- F9 — start / stop video recording
- F10 — screenshot
- F11 — toggle fullscreen
- Tab (held) — fast-forward at 4×
- ` (backtick, held) — rewind in real time
- ⌘O — open ROM
- ⌘Q — quit
Save States
8 quick-save slots, accessible from File → Save State and File → Load State. SRAM (battery saves) for games that support them auto-load and save next to the ROM file.
Netplay
Two players on the same Wi-Fi network can play homebrew titles that use the Virtual Boy's link cable. Open Tools → Netplay, click Host; on the second Mac, choose Browse and pick the host. No internet servers are used.
Reporting a Bug
The form will ask for the ROM you were running, what happened, your macOS / RedEye versions, and any screenshots. A free GitHub account is required.
